Coconut Development Board Celebrated Coconut Day at Arsikere, Hassan, Karnataka


The Coconut Development Board, Regional Office, Bangalore organized a public function in connection with the celebration of World Coconut Day at Basavarajendra High School Premises, B.H. Road, Arsikere on Sunday, 2nd September,2012 in association with the Karnataka Sate Coconut Growers Association and Department of Horticulture. Also Thengu mela/Coconut Exhibition was organized where in 30 stalls were erected and various Department and manufacturers participated in the exhibition. In the afternoon session coconut workshop and awareness programme on Value Addition of Coconut was organized.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Shri,G.M.Siddeshwara, Honorable MP from Davanagere, in presence of Shri.G.S.Basavaraj, Honorable MP from Tumkur and CDB member, Shri.Shankarlingegowda, MLA from Arsikere, Shri.Vijayakumar Hallikeri, Deputy Director, CDB, and President, Vice President and Directors of the Coconut Growers Association. In the public function Shri. Omkar murthy, Director of the Association welcomed the guest. The programe was inaugurated by Shri. K.M.Shivalingegowda, MLA, Arsikere by lighting the lamp in the presence of Shri,G.M.Siddeshwara, Honorable MP from Davanagere, Shri.G.S.Basavaraj, Honorable MP from Tumkur and CDB member, Dr.Vishwanath, MLA from Kadur, Shri.B.C.Nagesh, MLA from Tiptur,Shri.Vijayakumar Harllikeri Deputy Director, CDB, and President, Vice President and Directors of the Coconut Growers Association. Shri.G.S.Basavaraj Honorable MP presided over the function.

In the afternoon, Technical session was held under the Chairmanship of Shri.Vijayakumar Hallikeri, Deputy Director CDB. Experts/Scientists from Horticulture research station and KVK made presentation on different subjects vis cultivation, pest & disease management, harvesting schedules, marketing & processing of coconut and schemes of different department. About 5,000 farmers from Tumkur, Hassan, Chikmangalore, Chitradurga and Shimoga attended the programme.
