Coconut Development Board Celebrated Coconut Day at Panjabari, Assam


Coconut Development Board Regional Office Guwahati, and DSP Farm, Assam celebrated World Coconut Day on Sunday, 2nd September 2012 at the Seminar hall, Srimanta Sankardev Kalashetra, Panjabari, Assam.

After registration, at 10:30 A.M the programme started with welcome address by Sri Raju Rai, Steno, Coconut Development Board Regional Office Guwahati which was followed by lighting of lamp. Sri L. Obed, Director i/c, Coconut Development Board, Regional Office, East & Northeast, Guwahati, Assam, in his keynote address, explained different schemes and achievement of the Board implemented in Northeastern states and also the present situation of coconut in Northeast.

Dr. GC Acharaya, Scientist i/c, CPCRI, Kahikuchi, showed a presentation on "Potential & Coconut Cultivation Technology in Northeast region". Sri I.C Katiyar Assistant Director i/c, Coconut Development Board, DSP Farm Abhayapuri, briefed about the progress of the farm.

The Guest of honour, Dr. K. Borkakoty, Director of Agriculture, Govt. of Assam, expressed his view on the past and present situation of coconut in Assam. Dr. Borkakoty also distributed certificates to the trainees of “Coconut Based Convenience Food Training” held at R.O Guwahati.

Various Coconut handicrafts items, publications, products and coconut food items prepared during training were also displayed during the programme. Total number of participants was around 100 including staff of Coconut Board and Kalashetra. At last, Sri B. Bara, Senior Technical Officer, CDB R.O. Guwahati proposed vote of thanks. The programme ended at 2.45 P.M with light refreshment.
